ADM 642 - Human Resources and Community Engagement

(3 credits)
This course is designed to prepare public school administrators to collectively bargain, to manage contracts created through the collective bargaining process, to engage not for profit community agencies with the schools. Students will be introduced to the history and philosophy giving rise to collective bargaining legislation, and to the terms, concepts, and procedures central to traditional collective bargaining. The rules and procedures mandated by Ohio’s Collective Bargaining Law will be discussed in light of national norms, and will be the particular focus of course research, discussions, and simulations. Students will also become acquainted with local government, neighborhood organizations, and community institutions surrounding their schools and their interrelationships. Participants will discover and practice strategies to ways to not only broaden their spheres of influence through a strengthened learning community, but also find ways to harness more resources for their students.
