Gerontological Studies Certificate

The Gerontological Studies certificate is an interdisciplinary program (Cross-listed between Psychology and Health Sciences) designed primarily for students planning for a career in the field of aging. The emphasis is upon learning about aging as a basic human experience and as an important aspect of contemporary society.

The School of Health Sciences and the department of Psychology developed the certificate program and will offer courses listed below regularly to allow students to complete the certificate in a timely manner.

Requirements:


In order to earn a certificate, students must complete a minimum of 14-15 semester credit hours which must include:

Required Course:


  •  HSC/ PSY 180 Introduction to Gerontology (Offered on a rotational basis by Health Sciences, and Psychology)

Note(s)


Elective courses may have prerequisites which are not considered part of the certificate.

Capstone Project - Choose one course


Students must complete an internship, research or project offered by the School of Health Sciences or of the department of Psychology.  Choose one of the following: HSC 410, HSC 393, HSC 484, HSC 486, or PSY 396.
