Elliott Ingersoll, Certificate Program Coordinator

Joint Certificate Program with the Department of Counseling, Administration, Supervision, & Adult Learning and the School of Social Work.

Introduction

One of the fastest growing job markets in the mental health disciplines is chemical dependency counseling. The state of Ohio now has its own board to license chemical dependency counselors (The Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board – OCDPB). This program provides all the academic training for all levels of chemical dependency counseling licensure.

Faculty Research

Both the counseling and social work faculty have ongoing research projects related to the training of chemical dependency professionals and treatment outcomes in the field.

Career Information

According to an Ohio Department of Labor Task Force there will be a large number of retirements of chemical dependency professionals in Northeast Ohio between 2007 and 2017. This means that there will be a large demand for incoming graduates to fill the vacant positions.

Admission Information

Admission to the certificate program is open to current students in counseling, social work OR those holding master’s degrees in accredited counseling or social work programs from other institutions.

Application materials should be submitted to the Graduate Admissions Office.
