Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement (Grades 4-5)

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Education and Human Services

Information

An endorsement to teach grades 4-5 can be added to an existing Early Childhood License (PK-3) by successfully completing an approved Early Childhood endorsement program.  Completion of the endorsement requires successful completion of all four program courses (below), plus passing, with a score of 143 or better, the Praxis II test 0014: Elementary Education: Content Knowledge.

The Ohio Board of Regents determines minimum requirements for teachers’ licenses, and any changes in those requirements become effective immediately at Cleveland State University.

Admission Criterion

Acceptance into this endorsement program requires students to currently hold a teaching license in early childhood education (PK-3).

Multiple Indicators of Program Quality/Effectiveness

On a regular basis (twice annually), faculty involved in the program will review the effectiveness of the program, using multiple indicators of program quality.  The first program quality indicator is the percentage of program completers who pass the Praxis II test #0014: Elementary Education: Content Knowledge with a score of 143 or better.  The second program quality indicator is the performance of students on the core assignment that is threaded through all four courses in the program, and that focuses on kidwatching and child guidance in the Development and Education in Grades 4 & 5 course, and that focuses on the development of appropriate unit plans in the other three courses.  The criteria for these four core assignments will be quite challenging, and all students must pass all four of these assignments with a grade of B or better.  The third program quality indicator will be an exit interview given to all program completers.
