CIS 545 - Architecture and Operating Systems(4 credits) Prerequisite(s): CIS 506 . PC architecture, including interrupts, I/O handling, and memory management. Management of computer resources by an operating system, including hardware, processes, main memory, file systems, input/output, synchronization, and deadlocks. Along with the concepts, an in-depth study of a real operating system is presented and its interfaces examined at the command level as well as the system call level. Topics unique to distributed operating systems are examined, including communication, synchronization, and distributed file systems.
