ART 553 - Islamic Art(4 credits)
Prerequisite(s): Grad course eligibility for undergraduates: credits earned greater than or equal
to 144 and gpa 2.75 OR level is graduate. A survey of Islamic art from the period of the early caliphates (c. 700) to the heights of the Islamic empires (c. 1700), combined with close examinations of the issue of aniconism in the Islamic artistic tradition and of relationships between the Islamic and western traditions.
