CNS 622 - Indiv Counseling(3 credits) Prerequisite(s): Must be admitted as a graduate student to be eligible for this course; non-degree graduate students must obtain departmental permission to register for this course. Prerequisite: Admission to counseling program or permission of instructor.
An overview of the stages of the counseling process and major theories of counseling. Humanistic, psychodynamic, behavioral, and cognitive theories are discussed with attention to research literature and application to diverse populations. Focus is on evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the theories and building counseling skills through class exercises and role plays.
