HIS 545 - Church, State, and Society in Reformation Europe(4 credits) Examines lay piety and institutions of the Catholic Church during the late Middle Ages, and the rise of Protestant doctrines and faiths in 16th- and 17th-century Europe. Analyzes impacts among various social groups, cultural manifestations of religious upheaval, religious and political ambitions, and current movements of Christian humanism and Catholic and Counter-Reformations. Covers the period from the late 15th century through 1648.
