ART 372 - Art in the 20th Century[3 credit(s)] The survey of 20th-century modernism and visual culture in its historical context, focusing on particular national cultures - France, the United States, Mexico, Soviet Russia, Germany, Holland, Italy, England - and themes including the concept of the avant-garde, the place of the gendered body, the development of differing modes of abstraction, art censorship from fascism to the present, the role of photography and mechanization, and the rise of the postmodern.
