THE 451 - Dramatic Theory and Criticism[3 credit(s)] Prerequisite: DRA/THE 111. Dramatic theory and Criticism examines the key theoretical writings that have influenced the history of theater and drama. These include thinkers such as Aristotle, Zeami, Diderot, Shaw, Brecht, Boal, and Havel. This course aims to have students understand aesthetic values of drama in a cultural and historical context, and encourages students to articulate a personal philosophy about the purpose and meaning of theater. Geared towards students who are preparing to work as theater artists, this course helps prepare students by developing their philosophical understanding of the theater.
