SOC 640 - Sociological Theory

(4 credits)
A review of the major perspectives and key theories in macrosociology (the analysis of large-scale social systems and long-term processes of change) and microsociology (social interaction). Classical thinkers such as Marx, Weber, Durkheim, Simmel, and Mead, as well as a variety of contemporary theorists, are discussed. Emphasis on exploring the ways in which theoretical perspectives have influenced the history of sociology and are used in the conduct of empirical research.
