STA 145 - Intensive Statistical Concepts with Applications

Prerequisite: Suitable placement-exam score. A first course in statistics that emphasizes statistical methodology as applied in the biological, social, and behavioral sciences, education, and business; topics include descriptive statistics, elementary probability, elementary sampling theory, estimation, hypothesis testing, regression and correlation. Students are provided with intensive support to strengthen their algebra skills. Algebraic material will be introduced as needed. This course makes extensive use of online software for computer assisted instruction, assessment, and testing. Some class meetings will be held in a computer laboratory setting and students are expected to use the software on a self-paced, out-of-class basis to supplement regular in-class meetings. Only 3 credits of STA 145 or STA 147 will count towards graduation requirements and fulfillment of the quantitative literacy requirement. STA 145 requires class contact time of 5 credit hours and will be applied towards both financial aid and term billing as 5 credit hours.
