HIS 378 - History of Kenya from 1884/85 to the Present

Prereq: Gen Ed ENG/COMP. This course examines the social, economic, and political evolution of modern Kenya. Key themes include Kenya on the eve of colonization; the European colonization of Kenya; the African response to colonial invasion; the experience of Kenyans during the colonial period; Kenya’s participation in the World Wars and the wars’ impact on Kenya; the rise of modern political parties; the struggle for independence; Kenya from independence to 1992; and Kenya under a multi-party political system from 1992 to the present. The course concludes with an examination of Kenya’s standing regionally and globally.
