CHM 756 - Internship In Clinical Chemistry I[3 credit(s)] Prerequisites: Approval of the Director of Clinical Chemistry. Must be a student admitted in the Graduate Certificate in Doctoral Clinical Chemistry program and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Prerequisite or co-requisite of CHM 658. Clinical chemistry graduate students rotate through the clinical laboratory at a Cleveland or regional medical center. Students learn principles of instrumentation, chemistry of analysis, the clinical uses of analytes, quality control, calibration, maintenance, sample preparation and other aspects of clinical laboratory testing from technologists at the station, from reading procedure manuals and from textbook reading. Regular meetings with the Clinical Lab Director and participation in management meetings gives the student a general overview of various management and other issues in running a clinical laboratory.
