EDB 608 - Political Landscape of Education: Tools for Policy Analysis and Advocacy

A critical analysis of today’s political landscape and relationship with educational policy and practice. Examination of education as value-based and ideological, often rising to the forefront of political agendas. Focuses on the relationship of educational policy and equity aims within settings designed for teaching, learning, and human development. Study of schools as social systems in an era of hyperchange and the role of policy in sustaining inequities or reversing them. Current local, state, national and global topics studied based on current political climate. Historical and philosophical frameworks are used for setting context of current topics. The settings for policy studies include local, state and federal P-16 institutions as well as settings focused on after-school programming, enrichment, youth and young adult development, athletics, and career development.
