DRE 601 - Rotation 1 & Seminar: The Social Context of Urban Education

Co-requisite: DRE 500 and DRE 501. This Rotation 1 course and seminar provides an overview of diverse leaner characteristics (language, language varieties, identity, culture, development and exceptionalities) and the school context. Teachers will become aware and will use this knowledge to create a positive classroom learning community by affirming, supporting and engaging students. As part of the rotation, candidates will spend 50 clinical hours in a K-5 setting and in seminar. Seminars comprise of a group of prospective teacher candidates engaged in the clinical practice of teaching under the guidance of a professor who meets regularly with them to discuss their clinical experiences and reflect on their practice.
