ACT 634 - Financial Statement Analysis and Accounting Valuation

[3 credit(s)]
Prerequisites: ACT 531, FIN 501, time value of money, and a basic understanding of Excel. Corequisite: ACT 532. Students will gain valuable skills in extracting financial reporting information in order to evaluate fundamental firm value and risk through analysis, interpretation and prediction of financial statements. Students will also assess the quality of accounting reports. Students will develop their own Excel valuation template for future analysis of security value. The skills gained in this course are useful to those contemplating careers in banking, security analysis, consulting, entrepreneurship and public accounting. In addition, these skills will be highly useful for personal investing decisions. Practical applications include credit risk and security analyses, lending and investment decisions, management strategy, and other decisions that rely heavily on financial data. Analytical tools and concepts are used throughout the course.
