ALD 710 - Learner Assessment in Health Professions Education[2 credit(s)] Prerequisite: Department permission needed. Students will review assessment fundamentals and their theoretical underpinnings including trends in competency-based assessment and high-stakes assessment. Students will be introduced to a survey of assessment methods used in health professions education and examine validity, reliability, feasibility and educational considerations. The importance of student self-assessment will be addressed along with strategies to help students monitor their own learning and reflect on ways to improve performance, Participation will include interactive classroom discussions, journal club presentations, posting of session reflections on the Electronic Discussion Forum, and a paper elaborating on one assessment method. Each learner will be required to design an assessment approach for their Capstone Project. This course includes a total of 30 contact hours.
