SWK 627 - Evaluation of Social Work Practice

Prerequisites: Graduate Social Work Major. SWK 501, SWK 502, SWK 503, SWK 504, SWK 505, SWK 506, SWK 507, SWK 508, SWK 509, and SWK 510; or permission of the program; or advanced standing admission. Applying knowledge from SWK 509: Fundamentals of Research, and other aligned courses, this graduate level course will advance students’ understanding and application of the principles of evaluation in social work practice. Students will explore a range of evaluation methodologies and tools applicable to individual, family, group, and community practice settings. The course will emphasize students’ developing skills necessary to conduct evaluations of social work programs and clinical interventions. Students will critically analyze research methods, ethical considerations, and the role of evidence in research-informed practice. They will learn to formulate evidence-based questions, select appropriate evaluation designs, apply theories of human behavior and the social environment, and examine measurement techniques that are sensitive to diverse populations and practice contexts. The course will also cover strategies for data management, analysis, and reporting, with a focus on improving practice outcomes and service delivery.
