Black Studies Minor

Minimum hours required for the minor: 21

Students majoring in any discipline may pursue a minor in Black Studies.

Required Courses

The Black Studies minor requires twenty-one (21) credit hours completed in Black Studies designated courses. Categories listed below refer to the Black Studies, B.A.  program page. All minors must complete:

1. Introductory Course - 
   BST 200 - Introduction to Black Studies
     
2. African & Diaspora Social Thought and Religion (Select one course from either category A2-A3)
3. African Diaspora History and Culture (Select one course from B1-3)
4. African & Diaspora Arts, Politics, and Communication (Select one course from C1-C3)

Additional Requirement Guidelines:
A minimum of 9 credit hours shall be selected from Black Studies courses at the 300-level or higher.
Courses should be selected from a minimum of three different departments or disciplines.

Transfer students planning to minor in Black Studies shall complete a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours in Black Studies courses at Cleveland State University. For transfer students, a minimum of 9 credit hours of upper-level courses shall be completed at Cleveland State University. The transfer of Black Studies credits is subject to the approval of the director of Black Studies or of a person or persons designated by the director.
