Minimum hours required for the degree: 120
Minimum hours required for major: 35
Minimum hours required for minor: 18
Special requirement: In order to earn a B.A. in Linguistics, a student must maintain an overall grade-point average of 2.5 or better, and a grade-point average of 3.0 or better in courses applied to the major.

Major-Field Requirements
To earn a major in Linguistics, students must take at least 35 credits distributed as follows: I. Basic Courses (4 courses)
II. Capstone Seminar/Independent Study
The capstone should be done in conjunction with another 300/400 level course for a total of 4 hours.
III. Electives and WAC courses (18 credits)
IV. Less Commonly Taught Language (4 credits)
In addition to the university foreign language requirement, LIN majors will take one extra course at the 100-level in a less commonly taught language such as Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Slovenian, Serbian, or any other language available and upon the recommendation of the Director of Linguistics.
