Introduction
The College of Public Affairs and Education Graduate Certificate Program in TESOL is primarily designed for individuals who wish to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to teach English as a second language in non-public school settings. International students and those interested in teaching English abroad also benefit from the program. The curriculum provides for an in-depth study of current theory, research, and practice, as they relate to teaching English as a second or foreign language. The course work can be used to partially fulfill teacher licensure requirements for the TESOL endorsement in the State of Ohio. Completion of this certificate program by itself does not provide for this credential. Students seeking to add TESOL endorsement to an existing Ohio teaching certificate or license should contact the Education Student Services Center at (216) 687-4625 for further information about other available programs for this purpose.
Admission Information
Prospective students should apply for graduate admission as a “certificate” student in order to register for classes. Applicants must meet the graduate certificate admission requirements detailed in the Admissions section of this Catalog. With program permission, non-degree graduate students may also enroll in the courses noted below, but non-degree graduate students cannot earn a University graduate certificate. Degree-seeking graduate students who hold regular admission status may be admitted to this certificate program. Credits earned for the certificate may be applied toward a graduate degree, if approved by the student’s graduate program director and in keeping with the policies of the College of Graduate Studies.
Application materials should be submitted to the Graduate Admissions Office.
