Biomedical Engineering, Accelerated Master’s B.ChE/MS BME

The accelerated program in biomedical engineering enables students to earn both the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and the Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering at CSU in approximately 5 years. Students are eligible to apply for the program after they have completed 65 credit hours, typically at the end of the sophomore year (with at least 30 credit hours at CSU), and they have shown appropriate progress in their degree program. Once admitted to the combined program, the student may complete up to twelve (12) credit hours of graduate courses while enrolled in the undergraduate program. Nine (9) of these credits will count towards both the undergraduate and graduate degree requirements.

Admission to Program

  • Students must have shown appropriate progress in their degree program, with a GPA of 3.25 or higher
  • Completion of the application for the graduate program, including a recommendation from a faculty member
  • Enrollment in the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering program

Program Requirements

Students must maintain a 3.25 or higher GPA to remain in the program. Courses which will be applied to both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees must be taken at the 500 level.

The courses that can be applied towards both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees are described below:

  • BME 553 Cell and Tissue Biology  (Fulfills three credits of the advanced science/chemistry elective requirement of the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering program)
  • BME 570 Biomedical Signal Processing  (Fulfills three credits of the technical elective requirement of the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering program)
  • Any 5xx elective from the approved list of BME electives (Fulfills three credits of the technical elective requirement of the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering program)
