Description
Organizational Leadership majors develop the leadership skills necessary to be effective in our global economy. They enhance problem-solving skills to promote positive organizational change and learn effective management concepts which can be applied to the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
What careers can this major prepare you for?
Graduates hold managerial and administrative roles in governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private companies. You may go on to hold positions including: community engagement manager, communications director, executive director, grants administrator, human resources professional, marketing manager, and program director.
What skills are developed within this major?
Skills developed within this major include: communication; leadership; management; analytical skills; problem-solving; critical-thinking; and passion for public service.
Additional Information
- The degree program is a joint venture of the School of Urban Affairs, the Monte Ahuja College of Business, and the School of Communication. Students are admitted to the School of Urban Affairs, where the major is housed.
- Internship opportunities are available to all students; scholarships are available to qualified students.
- Students in the urban studies track with substantial prior learning experience may apply for credit through the Assessment and Accreditation of Prior Learning Experience program.
- Opportunities to participate in small seminar groups, research projects, and online courses are available.
- This major is offered as an in-person degree and an online degree-completion program. Students should select the degree option that best fits their schedule and academic goals. While online and in-person students may take both online and in-person courses, only online students are guaranteed access to a completely online degree. Online students should note that some classes may be online synchronous.

Hours Required for Degree
Minimum hours required for the degree: 120 Minimum hours required for the major: 33 Major Requirements
Organizational Leadership majors are required to complete a minimum of 33 credit hours from the following courses: A. Required Courses (6 courses)
B. Concentrations
Choose one of the following tracks. One Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) course must be completed in the specialized track. WAC Courses are marked with an asterisk. 1. Communication - Choose 5 courses
2. Business Management - Choose 5 courses
Choose 4 courses
All 4 courses must be completed at CSU and cannot transfer in from another institution in order to satisfy the Business Track. 3. Urban Studies - Choose 5 courses
Honors Program/University Scholars Requirements
Honors/Scholars students pursuing a major within the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs are required to take a minimum of 12 credit hours of 300-400 level honors courses as described below. - Honors Thesis or Exit Requirements (choose one):
- The remaining 9 credit hours of Honors courses shall consist of any combination of contract courses and regular Honors offerings within the Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs, with at least one course in the student’s major field.
