This minor provides students with a foundation in understanding the history and modern structure of special education in American schools, the roles and responsibilities of special education teachers, and the impacts of mild to moderate disabilities on the educational needs of children. When combined with another teacher licensure program designed with the potential for dual certification, this minor provides the requirements for licensure as an Intervention Specialist for Mild to Moderate Educational Needs.

Courses Required for Minor

Fulfilling the licensure requirements as an intervention specialist requires this minor be combined with another teacher licensure program that includes at least the following elements: the School of Education and Counseling’s social foundations and technology core, the literacy core, an introductory class in special education, an intensive practicum experience, and a student teaching practicum experience.
