Degrees

The faculty of the Monte Ahuja College of Business confers three types of degrees, the Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and the Bachelor of Science degree and the Bachelor of Arts degree.

Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Programs

The BBA Degree programs permits students to acquire a broad foundation of knowledge and skills in the functional areas of business, including accounting, finance, international business, marketing, organizational behavior, human resources management, information systems, and supply chain management. Within a business major, the student acquires specialized knowledge and skills. Emphasis is placed upon individual initiative, teamwork, integrative and critical thinking, ethical analysis, and strategic decision-making skills. Students are provided fundamental tools as well as knowledge about advances in management practice and thought to assist them in meeting the management and leadership responsibilities in their business, civic, and personal lives.

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Bachelor of Science degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree is awarded to students who fulfill the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 120 credit hours
  • Achievement of a grade-point average of 2.00 or better
  • Completion of College of Business lower and upper core courses and major requirements
  • Completion of university, college, and major requirements with appropriate grades - A grade of C or better for all major courses.
  • Completion of the foreign language requirement, if applicable. (Students who graduated from high school in 1987 or later and who did not complete two years of the same foreign language in high school must remove the foreign language deficiency by completing a first-year language sequence or two semesters of American Sign Language plus one approved foreign culture course.)
  • Inquiry Launch Elective
BBA Requirements:

BBA: Entry Level Requirements

All BBA Degree students must complete the lower-division core (entry-level requirements/additional coursework) with the appropriate academic standards prior to completing any course(s) from the upper-division core or 300/400 level major course work.

The appropriate academic standards are as follows: Grades of C or better are required for MTH 148  (for the catalog year 2010 and forward), BUS 201  (for the catalog year 2013 and forward),ACT 221  and ACT 222  (for the catalog year 2022 and forward) and GAD 250  do require a grade of C or better to meet the University Writing Across the Curriculum requirement.

BBA: Upper Core Requirements

After completing lower-division requirements, all students seeking a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in the College of Business Administration are required to complete the core courses listed below.

BBA: Capstone

The Capstone is required after completing all lower core and upper core requirements. Students should concurrently enroll in a BUS 498  course during the same semester.

Bachelor of Science Degree Programs

The College of Business offers two very different Bachelor of Science Degree business-based programs for students who select to study a specialized field of business, such as healthcare management or information systems, while obtaining strategic business skills with the completion of fundamental business courses to support the learner’s interest in applying their specialized knowledge of healthcare management or information systems within various industries and organizations.

Healthcare Management

The B.S. Healthcare Management program introduces students to a variety of healthcare-topics such as healthcare management, healthcare delivery models, healthcare finance, marketing, healthcare law and healthcare information systems, along with a strong foundation of fundamental business knowledge.

Also, the program requires completion of a healthcare concentration. The healthcare concentration allows students to pursue specialties such as healthcare informatics, various undergraduate minors from any discipline at CSU or prepare for graduate programs by completing corresponding undergraduate coursework. The program requires general education courses in the humanities, natural science, mathematics, and the social sciences.

The Undergraduate Healthcare Management prepares students for a career in the healthcare industry with a business management administrative focus. Graduates of the program will have career opportunities as health service managers with various organizations that include hospitals, clinics, health service providers, insurance organizations, nursing homes and healthcare financial/management based private and government organizations.

Information Systems - This is an approved STEM major

A Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems (BS-IS) is a four-year undergraduate program that focuses on the study of technology, business, and their integration to help organizations achieve their goals. This degree equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, develop, implement, and manage information systems in various business contexts.

BS-IS graduates can pursue various career paths, such as Systems Analyst, Database Administrator, IT Consultant, Information Systems Manager, Information Security Analyst, Software Developer, Project Manager, or Web Developer. They are well-prepared to bridge the gap between technology and business, helping organizations leverage information systems to improve efficiency, decision-making, and competitive advantage.

Bachelor of Arts Degree Program

Our BA Degree Program offers three majors and provides students with a strong foundational business education like our BBA Degree Program, with less focus on technical skills and in-depth business education topics such as finance and accounting. The BA Degree Program allows the student to select from the majors of sports and entertainment management, economics, and business studies (a board business flexible major with less technical and analytic courses than the BBA General Business major).

Adult Focus

  • Bachelor of Arts, Business Studies Program: The program supports students who seek a more flexible business-focused degree by allowing the use of varied transfer credit hours from any discipline to satisfy the business flex core of the program, while studying topics in Business areas such as marketing, sales, international Business, real estate, supply chain, and human resources. The program is very friendly for transfer students who may transfer in a large amount of credit hours.
  • Online Program: The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) - General Business Online Degree Completion Program is designed for students who have already completed the BBA required lower core coursework, English entry-level courses one and two and both required BBA math course requirements. The BBA General Online Degree Completion program offers all Upper Core and Major core courses online. The program enables experienced advanced college students and business professionals the flexibility to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree online. Student Responsibilities

Each student is solely responsible for meeting all curricular requirements and for knowing and following all academic regulations and policies of the Monte Ahuja College of Business, major and university requirements.

Students are urged to review all appropriate sections of this catalog, in particular the chapter on University Regulations as well as the chapters on Academic Procedures and Academic Standing. Although students must assume responsibility for knowing and fulfilling graduation requirements and for knowing and following policies and regulations, advisors are available to assist all College of Business students. Whenever in doubt, a student should consult with an academic advisor for assistance.

Monte Ahuja College of Business Transfer Academic Business Education Policies

The following information will govern the following types of business education experiences that can possibly be earned for direct business education credit for Monte Ahuja College of Business undergraduate academic majors, minors, and certificate programs that will be overseen by academic departments and faculty of the Monte Ahuja College of Business.

  1. Academic coursework completed at a higher education institution in the United States.
  2. Academic coursework completed at a higher education international institution.
  3. Credit for Industry-Recognized Certifications.
  4. Credit by Exam Programs.
  5. Credit by Life Experience Programs.

Transfer Business Education Policies & Guidelines

The Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Regulations established by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) advise all colleges and business schools accredited by the AACSB body to require completion of an earned business degree from an AACSB college or school. Students must earn at least 60 business credit hours or more business coursework at the AACSB institution that will confer the business degree, and in this case, this would be the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University. In addition, the Monte Ahuja College of Business Leadership Team supports the following guidelines for transfer education policies.

The Monte Ahuja College of Business’s overall business education transfer policies are the following:

  • Cleveland State University and the State of Ohio Higher Education require completion of 120 credit hours, which includes CSU core curriculum (general education) courses and coursework for the student’s selected undergraduate major.
  • However, all undergraduate business degrees offered by the Monte Ahuja College of Business must complete at least fifty percent or more of business credit hours/coursework at the Monte Ahuja College of Business for all business undergraduate programs due to our AACSB business accreditation regulations and standards. We have outlined detailed business education transfer guidelines for our business majors and minor/certificate programs.

Business Major: Transfer Business Education Guidelines

Students can transfer business coursework for direct business credit hours for a maximum of 30 hours of credits in business disciplines based on the following guidelines:

  • Business coursework is a part of an established, approved transfer coursework articulation program with the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University.
  • All business coursework that is not a part of an established approved transfer articulation program with the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University must be reviewed by Monte Ahuja College of Business academic departments for approval to be used toward a business undergraduate major.
  • No major business capstone course can be completed outside of CSU established business capstone course(s).

Business Minor and Certificate: Transfer Business Education Guidelines

Students can transfer business coursework for direct business credit hours for a maximum of 6 to 9 credit hours in business disciplines based on the following guidelines and overall required credit hours for the business minor or certificate programs.

  • Business coursework is a part of an established, approved transfer coursework articulation program with the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University.
  • All business coursework that is not a part of an established approved transfer articulation program with the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University must be reviewed by Monte Ahuja College of Business academic departments for approval to be used toward a business minor or certificate.
