IST 221 - Information Systems in the Organization[3 credit(s)] Prerequisite: IST 203. Introduces concepts of information technology, covering both hardware and software. Also introduces roles of information in an organization, information as a resource, and how information systems manage organizational information. Contents include basic computer hardware, O/S functions, file management; basic network components, procedural versus nonprocedural programming, object-oriented programming, types of Information Systems, IS planning, and IS career paths. Personal productivity software, such as spreadsheets and statistical analysis tools, are used to enhance business problem-solving.
