OTH 742 - Occupational Therapy Management, Policy, and Advocacy

Prerequisite: Admission to the Occupational Therapy Program. This course reviews management competencies, leadership theory, and skills needed to plan, organize, staff, coordinate, and control occupational therapy programs in a variety of systems. The roles of the occupational therapist are explored. Social, economic, political, and geographic contents within which occupational therapy services are provided to persons, groups, and populations are identified, analyzed, and evaluated to promote policy development and advocacy initiatives. The course addresses strategies to identify and adapt existing models or create new service provision models in response to policy, regulatory agencies, reimbursement, and compliance standards. It addresses resolution of ethical issues, professional and staff development, supervision, and marketing occupational therapy.
