SOC 537 - Drugs, Alcohol, and Crime

[3 credit(s)]
This course examines with a strong sociological focus key theoretical and empirical issues in both licit and illicit drug use and alcohol misuse, their relationships to crime, and criminal justice system responses. Emphasis is placed on the issues and consequences of the drug policies in the U.S., the theoretical and empirical issues concerning the drug/alcohol-crime relationship, and the criminal justice system responses to drug law violations. This course, therefore, does not focus on the psychopharmacological effects of drugs or the treatment/prevention of drug use, addiction, and abuse.
