HIS 339 - Ancient Roman Art[3 credit(s)] Prereq: Gen Ed ENG/COMP. This course provides an overview of the art and architecture of the ancient Roman world, from the period of Rome’s early kings, through to the Roman Republic, and to the end of the Early Empire (753 BC - first century AD). Through an analysis of architecture, sculpture, pottery and painting, we will consider themes such as portraiture, theatres, funerary monuments, and mural paintings as archaeological artifacts, all of which can help us to understand the history and society of the ancient Romans.
