SWK 201 - Contemporary Social Welfare[3 credit(s)] Prerequisite to SWK 300. Surveys the U.S. social welfare system, its purposes, historical development, and present functioning. Examines social welfare in a local, national, and international context, and in relation to broader political, social, and economic system. Addresses how social welfare responds to poverty, racism, sexism, and other institutionalized forms of oppression and injustice. Reviews alternative programs and policies that better meet human needs.
