SWK 502 - Social Welfare Policy and Analysis

[3 credit(s)]
Prerequisites: GSW Major. This course prepares students with a solid understanding of the U. S. social welfare system in a global context. It examines the philosophical, historical, and socioeconomic foundations of social welfare and the evolution of social policy and the social work profession in the United States. The implications of social policy and programs, and the role of the social work profession to advance human rights and social, racial, economic, and environmental justice will be discussed. This course help students be equipped with a solid understanding of how racism and oppression influence social welfare policy. Students learn to use policy analysis tools to understand both how policy influence practice and how social workers can influence social welfare policy.
