COH 890 - Independent Research

[1-4 credit(s)]
Prerequisites: Enrollment in the PhD program. Students are required to take 2 total credits of COH 890 during the program, at any time prior to the comprehensive exam. Students can register for 1-4 credits during any one semester and may take additional credits as needed up to 8 credits prior to the proposal defense. This course builds on the research concepts developed in COH 798 by beginning preliminary steps in the research process. The purpose is for students to complete supervised research under the direction of a faculty advisor that helps to prepare students for their dissertation research. This could include developing and testing new methods, preparing an IRB proposal, preliminary pilot or feasibility trials, or other work needed to lay the foundation for the dissertation doctoral research. Students and their assigned advisor/dissertation committee chair will create specific course objectives beyond the general objectives listed on this syllabus.
