ART 485 - Art History: Theory & Methods

(4 credits)
Prerequisite(s): One introductory Art History course (ART 252 , ART 353 , ART 256 , ART 281 , or ART 286 ) and one 300 or 400 level Art History course. An examination of the various investigative and interpretive methods used by art historians. The course is divided into two parts; the first on traditional methodologies along with their contemporary critiques and the second on a range of “new” art histories. At the end of the course students will be both competent in traditional methodologies and cognizant of contemporary debates within art history as a discipline.
