Introduction

There is a growing demand for professionals with skills in predicting outcomes derived from data and statistical models (this field is sometimes known as analytics). The Graduate Certificate in Applied Predictive Modeling provides the opportunity for students to enhance their skills in statistics and applied mathematics. Credits earned as part of the certificate program may apply toward a graduate degree in Mathematics.
Students who complete the certificate program will be able to:

  • Enhance and complement the skills of industry professionals who deal with data in finance, marketing, insurance, and bio-research.
  • Bring professional knowledge of modeling with data to businesses and research centers in Northeast Ohio and beyond.

Career Opportunities

The Graduate Certificate in Applied Predictive Modeling is designed to prepare students with the applied predictive modeling skills they may not have acquired as an undergraduate. The certificate is designed to give students concrete, applied, and hands-on skills that are needed for employment right away.

Faculty Research

Approximately a dozen faculty members are engaged in statistical or mathematical modeling projects in various applied disciplines. Recent publications include articles in scholarly and professional journals, presentations at national and international professional meetings, and sustained contributions to professional associations.

Admission Information

Students who are admitted to the certificate program should have completed a bachelors degree with at least one undergraduate statistics course. Students admitted to a graduate degree program at Cleveland State University are eligible for this certificate as well (as long as they have taken either one undergraduate statistics course or one graduate statistics course in their own program.) The certificate program consists of four graduate courses for a minimum of 16 credit hours. A minimum of B grade in each course is required to complete the certificate program.
