Health Communication Minor

Effective health communication is essential to the health and wellness of our society. The Minor in Health Communication prepares students in all majors to communicate effectively in health-related interactions using interpersonal, group, organizational, social media, and public channels. Students (a) will learn strategies and health behavior change theories to communicate competently in personal, professional, and public health-care interactions, (b) will gain knowledge and skills in the development, implementation, and evaluation of health communication messages and risk information to different populations, and (c) will develop skills in content production to create effective print and digital media materials for use in programs aimed to improve public health. The knowledge and skills gained from this minor are essential for individuals pursuing communication, administration, or clinical roles in health organizations and academic careers.

This program is open to all students, regardless of major.  

Students majoring in Communication Studies, B.A.  or Journalism and Promotional Communication, B.A.  may count some courses completed for this minor toward their major requirements.

To complete this minor, students must complete 18 credit hours as specified below.
