Broadcasting Minor
Broadcasting focuses on the creation, production and distribution of content to a wide audience. Traditionally distribution was through television and radio, while today there are any number of digital distribution strategies. The broadcast minor provides students the opportunity to develop skills and experiences in the creation of broadcasts. Skills in the minor include identifying compelling interview and story ideas, effectively researching topics, speaking on camera and from a teleprompter, setting up for shoots, assembling and running cameras, setting up lighting, and post-production editing. This minor may be of particular interest to those interested in broadcast journalism, public relations, marketing, sports administration, or anyone else seeking to develop their skills in this area.
Students in the minor will gain experience in productions in the studio in the basement of the Music and Communication Building and in the field. A foundational aspect of our minor is a partnership with Classic Teleproductions (https://classicteleproductions.com), where we produce a program called Cleveland Conversations (https://www.youtube.com/@ClevelandConversations). Students will work with both faculty and the skilled engineers from Classic.
