Description

The Bachelor of General Studies is a program that provides students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials necessary to advance in a rapidly changing workplace. It is designed to be equally suitable for traditional students as well as for returning learners, who are already in the workforce but lack the bachelor’s degree required to move up in their careers.

The major is flexible to meet student needs and aspirations, to provide an efficient pathway to graduation, and to allow for focused studies in four concentration areas - including an individualized option. The curriculum uses guided course selection along with existing concentrations, minors, and certificate programs to craft tailored fields of study.

What careers can this major prepare you for?

The General Studies degree is designed to apply to the widest variety of career paths due to it’s breadth and adaptability. The program provides students with the opportunity to combine multiple fields of study in order to diversify their skill sets and demonstrate their adaptability for the workforce of today and tomorrow. As part of the program, General Studies students analyze their skills and interests, and co-design a curriculum aimed at their unique career aspirations. The program concludes with a work-based learning component that allows students to reflect upon the connection between their classroom experiences and the world of work.

What skills are developed within this major?

Students in the General Studies program will gain valuable transferrable skills in the areas of integrative and critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program, students will attain, use, and connect knowledge from a variety of disciplines, and demonstrate an understanding of a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. In addition, students will be able to clearly and effectively communicate in many forms of expression, which cross and/or combine industry or discipline-specific traditions.
