Biomedical Engineering, Accelerated Master’s BS BME/MS BME

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Engineering

The accelerated program in biomedical engineering enables students to earn BS and MS degrees in Biomedical Engineering at CSU in approximately 5 years. Students are eligible to apply for the program after they have completed 65 credit hours, typically at the end of the sophomore year (with at least 30 credit hours at CSU), and they have shown appropriate progress in their undergraduate degree program.

Once admitted to the combined program, undergraduate students may enroll in graduate-level courses. Up to nine (9) credit hours earned at the graduate-level will count towards both the undergraduate and graduate degree requirements.

Undergraduate students in the accelerated MS BME program may complete up to eighteen (18) credit hours of graduate courses while enrolled in the undergraduate program.

Admission to Program

  • Students must have shown appropriate progress in their degree program, with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
  • Completion of the application for the graduate program, including a recommendation from a faculty member
  • Enrollment in the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering program

Program Requirements

Students must maintain a 3.25 or higher GPA to remain in the program. Courses which will be applied to both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees must be taken at the 500 level.

The courses that can be applied towards both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees are described below:

  • BME 551 - Biomechanics  (Fulfills a three credits hour requirement of the BS BME program)
  • BME 555 - Biomaterials  (Fulfills a three credits hour requirement of the BS BME program)
  • BME 570 - Biomedical Signal Processing  (Fulfills three credits of the technical elective requirement of the BS BME program)
  • Any 5XX elective from the approved list of BME electives (Fulfills three credits of the technical elective requirement of the BS BME program)
