EDL 415 - Foundations and Issues in Bilingual Education

(3 credits)
Prerequisite(s): EDL 406 . Designed to equip bilingual teachers with the knowledge and philosophy to work in the education of language minority students in the context of bilingual programs. We will explore the historical, political and legal foundations of the psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic principles upon which each is based. Candidates will also examine the pedagogical, socio-cultural and linguistic issues that make bilingual education controversial and define a professional philosophy of bilingual teaching.
