FIN 470 - Introduction to Risk and Insurance

(4 credits)
Prerequisite(s): FIN 351 . An examination of risk, methods of handling risk, the insurance mechanism, characteristics of insurance, legal concepts underlying insurance contracts, risk management, captives, types of insurers, and insurance company operations. A variety of insurance products are covered, including homeowners’ insurance, automobile insurance, umbrella coverage, title insurance, workers’ compensation, life insurance, annuities, and health insurance. The emphasis of the course is on property and liability insurance.
