HIS 317 - Civil War and Reconstruction, 1848 to 1877

(4 credits)
This course examines the causes, course, and consequences of the American Civil War and Reconstruction. Particular emphasis is given to slavery and sectional differences leading to the conflict; military and political events; the impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction on American society; the emancipation experiences of African-Americans; and the struggle to redefine freedom, nationalism, and citizenship during Reconstruction. This course may fulfill a General Education Requirement.
