HIS 324 - Defining Black America(4 credits)
Explores the ways in which Americans of African descent have been defined historically by themselves and by whites. The social and political consequences of adopting these definitions are also examined. Topics covered include representations in law and popular/elite culture; racial thought and the rise and fall of slavery/Jim Crow; and self-definitions grounded in, among others, political and class differences. This course may fulfill a General Education Requirement.
