HIS 372 - Early Modern Japan(4 credits) A consideration of historical change during the Tokugawa Period (1600-1868) in Japanese history, an era considered both “late traditional” and “early modern.” Examines the processes of urbanization and the growth of a monetary economy, changes in social organization, major cultural innovations, intellectual movements, and the emergence of a sense of national identity.
