SOC 312 - Sociology of Mental Illness[3 credit(s)] Prerequisites: Must have at least sophomore standing to be eligible for this course. This course examines three central issues: our changing understanding of mental illness, the variety of approaches for the treatment of mental illness and the impact of social policy on the lives of the mentally ill. By combining historical, medical, and sociological perspectives, this course provides a broad introduction to the study of mental illness. The material is drawn primarily from the United States.
