SOC 313 - Mental Health Services and Policy[3 credit(s)] This course is intended to begin where SOC 312, Sociology of Mental Illness, ends, with a discussion of the structure of the mental health system. Mental Health Services and Policy will explain how the mental health system was designed, how it currently works (or does not work), the financing of mental health care, the interactions between the mental health system and other systems (e.g., criminal justice), and the problems that are exacerbated by the lack of a coherent system of care. This course is intended to be of particular use to students planning to seek employment in the mental health, social services, or criminal justice systems.
