MTH 301 - Introduction to Number Theory[3 credit(s)] Prerequisite: A grade of “C” or better in MTH 220 or permission of instructor. This course is an introduction to number theory and its applications. Topics covered include divisibility, greatest common divisor and Euclid’s algorithm, congruences and the algebra of congruence classes, the theorems of Fermat, and Euler, the Chinese Remainder Theorem, quadratic residues and primitive roots. Applications include cryptography, computer security and coding theory.
