DEGREES

The faculty of the Monte Ahuja College of Business confers three types of degrees, the Bachelor of Business Administration degree, and the Bachelor of Science degree and the Bachelor of Arts degree.

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEGREE PROGRAMS

The BBA Degree programs permits students to acquire a broad foundation of knowledge and skills in the functional areas of business, including accounting, finance, international business, marketing, organizational behavior, human resources management, information systems, and supply chain management. Within a business major, the student acquires specialized knowledge and skills. Emphasis is placed upon individual initiative, teamwork, integrative and critical thinking, ethical analysis, and strategic decision-making skills. Students are provided fundamental tools as well as knowledge about advances in management practice and thought to assist them in meeting the management and leadership responsibilities in their business, civic, and personal lives.

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Bachelor of Science degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree is awarded to students who fulfill the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 120 credit hours
  • Achievement of a grade-point average of 2.00 or better
  • Completion of College of Business lower and upper core courses and major requirements
  • Completion of university, college, and major requirements with appropriate grades - A grade of C or better for all major courses.
  • Completion of the foreign language requirement, if applicable. (Students who graduated from high school in 1987 or later and who did not complete two years of the same foreign language in high school must remove the foreign language deficiency by completing a first-year language sequence or two semesters of American Sign Language plus one approved foreign culture course.)
  • ASC 101 - Introduction to University Life  for Business Majors (freshmen only)
BBA REQUIREMENTS:
  • CSU General Education Requirements
  • BBA Lower Core
  • BBA Upper Core
  • BBA Major core: courses of 30 to 39 credit hours based on the specific major
  • BBA Capstone
BBA: ENTRY LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

All BBA Degree students must complete the lower-division core (entry-level requirements/additional coursework) with the appropriate academic standards prior to completing any course(s) from the upper-division core or 300/400 level major course work.

The appropriate academic standards are as follows: Grades of C or better are required for MTH 148  (for the catalog year 2010 and forward), BUS 201  (for the catalog year 2013 and forward),ACT 221  and ACT 222  (for the catalog year 2022 and forward) and GAD 250  do require a grade of C or better to meet the University Writing Across the Curriculum requirement.

  • Lower-division core refers to MTH 148  / BUS 201  / OSM 202  and ECN 201 /ECN 202 BUS 151 IST 203 GAD 250 ACT 221 /ACT 222 .
  • All BBA majors with specific catalog rights must satisfy MTH 148 BUS 201  courses with a final grade of “C” or higher or repeat the course.
    *Note: Fall 24 - Business Analytics majors’ MTH 148 - Mathematics for Business Majors I or MTH 167 - Precalculus Mathematics I (MTH 148 preferred)
  • All BBA majors with fall 2022 catalog rights and forward must satisfy ACT 221  and ACT 222  courses with a final grade of “C” or higher or repeat the course.
  • OSM majors with catalog rights of fall 2021 and forward must satisfy lower core course OSM 202  with a final grade of “C” or higher or repeat the course.
BBA: UPPER CORE REQUIREMENTS

After completing lower-division requirements, all students seeking a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in the College of Business Administration are required to complete the core courses listed below.

BBA: CAPSTONE

The Capstone is required after completing all lower core and upper core requirements. Students should concurrently enroll in a BUS 498  course during the same semester.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE PROGRAMS

The College of Business offers two very different Bachelor of Science Degree business-based programs for students who select to study a specialized field of business, such as healthcare management or information systems, while obtaining strategic business skills with the completion of fundamental business courses to support the learner’s interest in applying their specialized knowledge of healthcare management or information systems within various industries and organizations.

Healthcare Management

The B.S. Healthcare Management program introduces students to a variety of healthcare-topics such as healthcare management, healthcare delivery models, healthcare finance, marketing, healthcare law and healthcare information systems, along with a strong foundation of fundamental business knowledge.

Also, the program requires completion of a healthcare concentration. The healthcare concentration allows students to pursue specialties such as healthcare informatics, various undergraduate minors from any discipline at CSU or prepare for graduate programs by completing corresponding undergraduate coursework. The program requires general education courses in the humanities, natural science, mathematics, and the social sciences.

The Undergraduate Healthcare Management prepares students for a career in the healthcare industry with a business management administrative focus. Graduates of the program will have career opportunities as health service managers with various organizations that include hospitals, clinics, health service providers, insurance organizations, nursing homes and healthcare financial/management based private and government organizations.

Information Systems - This is an approved STEM major

A Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems (BS-IS) is a four-year undergraduate program that focuses on the study of technology, business, and their integration to help organizations achieve their goals. This degree equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, develop, implement, and manage information systems in various business contexts.

BS-IS graduates can pursue various career paths, such as Systems Analyst, Database Administrator, IT Consultant, Information Systems Manager, Information Security Analyst, Software Developer, Project Manager, or Web Developer. They are well-prepared to bridge the gap between technology and business, helping organizations leverage information systems to improve efficiency, decision-making, and competitive advantage.

BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE PROGRAM

Our BA Degree Program offers three majors and provides students with a strong foundational business education like our BBA Degree Program, with less focus on technical skills and in-depth business education topics such as finance and accounting. The BA Degree Program allows the student to select from the majors of sports and entertainment management, economics, and business studies (a board business flexible major with less technical and analytic courses than the BBA General Business major).

DEGREE COMPLETION PROGRAMS

Adult Focus

  • Bachelor of Arts, Business Studies Program: The program supports students who seek a more flexible business-focused degree by allowing the use of varied transfer credit hours from any discipline to satisfy the business flex core of the program, while studying topics in Business areas such as marketing, sales, international Business, real estate, supply chain, and human resources. The program is very friendly for transfer students who may transfer in a large amount of credit hours.
  • Online Program: The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) - General Business Online Degree Completion Program is designed for students who have already completed the BBA required lower core coursework, English entry-level courses one and two and both required BBA math course requirements. The BBA General Online Degree Completion program offers all Upper Core and Major core courses online. The program enables experienced advanced college students and business professionals the flexibility to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree online. Community Partnership Program

  • The Monte Ahuja College of Business maintains partnerships with Cuyahoga Community College and Lakeland Community College

STUDENT SERVICES

The College of Business Student Services Center provides comprehensive services for current undergraduate students at the Monte Ahuja College of Business, as well as support for prospective students interested in learning more about Ahuja undergraduate programs.

The Center provides the following services for all current undergraduate students: academic advising services such as understanding University, College, and Major course requirements, as well as developing long term graduation plans and completing graduation application evaluations. In addition, the Office helps current students with issues regarding College and University petition requests, exploration of scholarship options, exploration of major interest and career/internship information.

Career and Engagement Services

  • Business Career and Internship Expo is the Monte Ahuja College of Business career and internship fair sponsored by KeyBank
  • Meet the Accountants Night is an accounting career fair for students studying accounting, finance and information systems.
  • KeyBank Day at the Monte Ahuja College of Business is an exclusive career networking-information session and recruiting event. It began in 2014 because of Key’s interest in recruiting for internship and full-time career rotational programs. KeyBank selected the Monte Ahuja College of Business for this unique annual event due to their interest in retaining talented CSU college graduates in the greater Cleveland area; as well as developing future business leaders.
  • Information Systems (IS) Co-Op is a formal, accredited academic program for undergraduate students majoring Information Systems that integrates classroom theory with work experience.
  • Women in Business: Today and Tomorrow highlights women and their roles in business as leaders, their contributions to Northeast Ohio and their impact both to their organization and to the region as a whole.
  • Diversity and Inclusion Business Week showcases local business talent within greater Cleveland that are supporting diversity and inclusion as a best business practice within their organizations. The series provides real-life examples on how embracing diversity and inclusion are competitive advantages in business.
  • Startup Vikes provides the opportunity for individuals who have a business idea or who want to work in a startup the ability to create a business in ONE weekend.
  • Ohio Export Internship Program (OEIP) combines a Spring Semester export-focused course and will allow for ten Cleveland State students to receive a paid summer internship regarding international markets.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Each student is solely responsible for meeting all curricular requirements and for knowing and following all academic regulations and policies of the Monte Ahuja College of Business, major and university requirements.

Students are urged to review all appropriate sections of this catalog, in particular the chapter on University Regulations as well as the chapters on Academic Procedures and Academic Standing. Although students must assume responsibility for knowing and fulfilling graduation requirements and for knowing and following policies and regulations, advisors are available to assist all College of Business students. Whenever in doubt, a student should consult with an academic advisor for assistance.
