Gerontological Studies Certificate

The Gerontological Studies certificate is an interdisciplinary program (Cross-listed between Psychology and Health Sciences) designed primarily for students planning for a career in the field of aging. The emphasis is upon learning about aging as a basic human experience and as an important aspect of contemporary society.

The School of Health Sciences and the department of Psychology developed the certificate program and will offer courses listed below regularly to allow students to complete the certificate in a timely manner.

In order to earn the certificate, students must complete a minimum of 14-15 semester credit hours which must include the following courses:

The Gerontological Studies Certificate is an interdisciplinary program and students from any major can pursue the certificate. Students interested in pursuing the Certificate in Gerontology Studies should seek advising from the School of Health Sciences and complete the required Intent to Complete the Gerontology Studies Certificate Form. Gerontological Studies Certificate Courses


Capstone Project (3-6 credits)


Students must complete an internship, research, or project offered by the School of Health Sciences or the Department of Psychology. The project must have a gerontological focus and be approved by the certificate adviser prior to completion. Choose 1 (one) of the following:
