Description

Finance is concerned with the process, institutions, markets, and instruments involved with the transfer of money among individuals, businesses, and governments. 

What careers can this major prepare you for?

Graduates with a finance major enjoy a high rate of employment in leadership positions at all levels of financial management for careers in public or private corporations, not-for-profit organizations, and government. Finance majors typically embark on careers in asset management, commercial banking, corporate finance, financial planning, investments, insurance, real estate, or risk management. Hours Required for Degree


Minimum hours required for degree: 120

Minimum hours required for major: 30 credit hours of Finance courses are required beyond the College Core requirements.

Major Requirements


The requirements for a major in Finance are as follows: complete 9 credit hours of Finance core courses (FIN 353 - Introduction to Investments , FIN 360 - Financial Markets & Institutions  and FIN 362 - Introduction to Corporate Finance ) beyond FIN 351 , and 21 credits of finance elective courses.

A grade of C or better is required for all finance-field requirement courses.

Honors Program


The College of Business - BBA Degree/Major Honors/Scholars Track Designation Program

  • Honors Student: Completion of 15 credit hours of the honors requirements 
  • University Scholars Student: Completion of 12 credit hours of the honors requirements listed. 

The Honors and Scholars requirements for the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree program and associated majors focuses on three areas: graduate coursework, selected high-level experiences in specific business courses and areas, and preparing for the current jobs and careers of today and tomorrow. 

Business Honors Level I Requirement (9 Credit Hours)


The student will complete this requirement with business graduate 500 level courses and satisfy business BBA major or BBA Divisional Upper Core requirements. The student has the option to select concentration A or B.

Student will work with assigned College of Business professional advisor requiring these course selections.

Note: 500 level business graduate coursework does not satisfy College of Business degree completion requirements for business graduate programs.

Concentration A


  • Complete nine credit hours of 500 level graduate business courses to satisfy required BBA major requirements.

Concentration B


  • Complete three or six credit hours of 500 level graduate business courses to satisfy required BBA major requirements.
  • Complete three or six credit hours of the following 500-level graduate business courses FIN 501 for FIN 351  or MKT 501 for MKT 301 , which will satisfy one BBA Divisional Upper Core requirement course.

Business Honors Level II Requirement (6 Credit Hours)


The student will complete two of the four courses as an Honors Contract# course to satisfy this requirement. In addition, this requirement selection will satisfy business BBA major or BBA Divisional Upper Core requirements.

  • Business Internship based on specific major with no honors designation. Student must seek approval by the Department Chair or College of Business Administrator*
  • Honors Thesis - Student must seek approval by the Department Chair
  • # This is done in collaboration among the undergraduate business advisor, the business faculty honor advisor, honors advisor, and the course instructor. Students must reach out to the course instructor before the start of the semester to agree on an additional project, which may be more creative and/or experience-based than the rest of the coursework. Students will then record the agreement through the Honors Contract agreement form: https://honors.csuohio.edu/current-students/forms-3

    * The Business Internship course can be completed twice to satisfy this honors track requirement with the completion of two different approved internship experiences.

    1. The student would enroll for the first approved internship experience using the internship course associated with the student’s specific BBA major.
    2. The student would enroll for the second approved internship experience using the College of Business general internship course BUS 490 .
